The Lotus Elise was introduced in September 1996 and was a 2 seater roadster comprising of a hand finished fibreglass body fixed to an aluminium chassis by Lotus Cars of Norfolk.

Despite a low power output of 120PS, the car was fast due to its low weight of 725kg. 60mph was covered in just 5.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 150mph. Handling was precise due to its low centre of gravity and the earliest cars stopped well aided by Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) disc brakes.

Our car is one of those very early Series 1 cars with the MMC disc brakes. First registered in November 1996 in Jersey, the car has had just one owner and, following on the tradition of cars from Jersey, it has a very low mileage of just 12,367.

Finished in Racing Green metallic, the interior is trimmed in contrasting tan leather and the new soft top is in black. A radio/CD is fitted, as is a passenger step and an immobiliser. The 5 double spoke alloy wheels sparkle and show off the MMC brakes.

On the road, the car feels tight like only low mileage examples do. It pulls well through the gears and both handles well and stops well.

The Lotus Elise has a great following which other manufacturers can only be envious of.

Low mileage Series 1 cars are very collectable but at the same time very useable. The nights may be drawing in now but I wouldn't wait until next Spring hoping this one will still be around!
